The first class in the new academic year

Today, throughout Ukraine, the first class in educational institutions began with the honoring of the defenders who died in the fight for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

At ONMedU, this class was special. All the present speakers either work, or  studied, or are studying at Odesa Medical University.

Associate Professor of the Department of Social Sciences, Candidate of Political Sciences. M.M. KULACHYNSKYI spoke about the military contest for Ukrainian statehood in a historical dimension.

After honoring the heroes of the past, the floor was given to the heroes of the present. About the work of his department, Panchenko O. E. – colonel of the medical service, associate professor of the department of disaster medicine and military medicine of ONMedU told.

The speech and presentation “Prospects of the development of military field surgery in the conditions of hostilities” by O.S. Herasimenko attracted the greatest attention of those present. He is the chief surgeon of the military hospital, has been fighting since 2014, after the full-scale invasion, he constantly participated in the organization and provision of surgical care in the Odesa military hospital, has numerous medals and certificates from the Verkhovna Rada, and was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, 3rd degree.

An emotional, powerful report by a graduate of ONMedU, a resident doctor at the Borodetsky military hospital, resonated in the hearts. He fought from the first days of the war. He brought to the meeting a relic that deserves the most honorable place in the Museum – a flag signed by the sworn brothers.

The graduate of the 6th year of the medical faculty of ONMedU, senior combat medic Bodia M.M. shared his memories of the beginning of the full-scale invasion and being in the epicenter of hostilities in the Southern direction.
