Fire safety is being strengthened at Odessa National Medical University. The action plan was discussed during the meeting of the Academic Council.
“The horrific fires in Odessa should be a bitter lesson for everyone. Firstly, fire safety rules are mandatory. Secondly, the human factor. Everyone at the university should know how to prevent a fire, how to behave during a fire, how to help others,” said the Academic Council Chairman Academician Valerii Zaporozhan.
Odessa Medical University has approved the budget and started a set of appropriate measures. Fire extinguishers and fire-shields, personal protective equipment are being purchased. Fireproofing of wooden roof elements has started in the premises. Documents are currently being prepared to design and install the fire alarm system.
Vice-rector Konstiantyn Talalaiev suggested to carry out training at all departments and in all dormitories during the week – until December 24, during which to practice evacuation in the event of a fire. Valerii Zaporozhan ordered to arrange a daily duty in the dormitories during the New Year holidays – for prompt response in case of emergency.
