100 Outstanding Graduates (Bazhora Yurii Ivanovych)

Bazhora Yurii Ivanovych – Professor of the Department of Clinical Immunology, Genetics and Medical Biology, Honored Worker of Science and Technology, Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine.
After graduation from OMI named after M.I. Pirogov Yurii Ivanovych joined the postgraduate studies at the Department of Medical Biology. In 1975 he defended his Ph.D. thesis on the topic: “Study of antibody-forming functions of lymphoid tissue in the conditions of introduction of trace elements”. After 13 years he defended his doctorate on the topic: “Clinical and immunological basis of cryosurgical treatment of chronic tonsillitis”.
Yurii Ivanovych began work at the Department of Medical Biology as an assistant, and at the moment he is a professor. From 1998 to 2015 he was the Vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work. During the time of his work has supervised 2 doctors and 17 candidates of sciences.
Yurii Bazhora is a member of editorial boards of several professional scientific journals, a specialized council for the defense of dissertations, and several international scientific societies. With his participation 5 course books and more than 30 textbooks were published. In 2007, for the course book “Medical Biology” he was awarded the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology, and in 2004 he received the honorary title “Honored Worker” in the same field.
Yurii Ivanovych is the author of more than 600 scientific works devoted to the questions of applied immunology, practical use in medicine of the latest molecular genetic and biophysical methods.
At the moment, Yurii Bazhora works at the Department of Medical Biology and Genetics, and we are proud that we can learn from such an outstanding person.
