On February 20, 2020 was the sixth anniversary of the Maidan shootings. Those days became some of the most tragic in the history of modern Ukraine. Six years ago, heroes took their lives, defending democratic values and Ukraine’s European choice.
On February 19-21, in memory of these events, Department of Social Sciences (headed by associate professor Sikorska O.O.) held some actions to honor the patriotism and courage of Ukrainian citizens. Students were talked to and presented reports aimed at attracting young people to those events.
The unfortunate events in Bangladesh in 1952 also led to the International Mother Language Day, which is celebrated on 21 February. Language is the history of the people, their outlook. Without its language, its original culture, there is no nation. For the Ukrainian language, which has suffered from linguocide, this International Memorial Day is also an occasion for enhancing its conservation and development.
On February 20, 2020, Associate Professor Uvarova O.O. during a lecture on “The History of Ukraine and Ukrainian culture”, dedicated to Ukrainian cultural revival in the 19th century, informed 1st year students of the international faculty (groups 7-9, the faculty of dentistry) about the historical development of the Ukrainian language, emphasizing the diversity of languages and respect for each of them. Foreign students told about the languages they use in their countries. In the end, it was concluded that the importance of the mother tongue for each individual and people and the need to respect the linguistic heritage of each nation.
