The most active entrants visited the molecular genetic laboratory of the Research Institute of Translational Medicine at ONMedU

Until the Doors Open Day from January 17 to 20, Odessa National Medical University invited all interested entrants to visit various departments of the university. The purpose of the invitation is to help school graduates decide on the choice of profession and educational institution. Some students showed great interest in the opportunity to touch student life and visited all the offered excursions to the university.

The door was opened for the most active entrants by the Molecular Genetics Laboratory of the Research Institute of Translational Medicine at ONMedU. The staff of the laboratory told them about the possibilities of modern diagnostic equipment, which is represented in Ukraine by single devices. The greatest interest of future entrants was caused by the new generation sequencer, which allows to determine the nucleotide sequence of DNA and RNA to describe its primary structure. According to the laboratory staff, in 2003 92% of the human genome was sequenced, 8% of the genome was missed not due to lack of important information, but due to technological limitations. In the sequencer, which is owned by the molecular genetic laboratory of the Research Institute of Translational Medicine at ONMedU, these restrictions are absent.

Finally, two schoolgirls were given the opportunity to isolate DNA for PCR. All manipulations were carried out by them personally under the guidance of the head of the laboratory.
