The staff and students of Odessa National Medical University at the General Meeting signed an appeal to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskii, the Chairman of Verkhovna Rada Committee on Health, Nursing and Health Insurance Mykhailo Radutsky and the Minister of Health Zoriana Skaletska. The appeal collected hundreds of signatures.
The appeal states that the collective of thousands is united in the fact that employees and students have the right to work and study, receiving salaries and scholarships for this, that the lawlessness started by the former leadership of the Ministry of Health should cease, and that the principle of autonomy of higher education enshrined in the law should be respected accordingly. Rector’s position is elective and cannot be “sold for money to anyone.”
However, for 9 months, many thousands of people have been forced to work in inhumane conditions. Supporters of the former leadership of the MoH organized raider hijackings, discredited and intimidated teachers and students, exerted constant pressure, threatened to destroy the university and fail to comply with court decisions. The Ministry of Health has not yet signed the budget of the university, resulting in a blockage of scholarships, salaries and economic activity for 9 months: the university is unable to pay for public utilities, purchase medicines for university clinics, carry out repairs.
“The worst thing Suprun and her team started is the lawlessness that continues today. The whole staff of our university expects that after the change of government in the country, promises will cease to be only promises, abuse of our university, and, first and foremost, ordinary people will finally cease, ”the statement reads.
Employees and students ask the President, the Chairman of the Profile Committee and the Ministry to stop torturing the employees and stop Suprun’s lawlessness, motivated solely by corrupt interests, to sign the budget and thereby ensure the implementation of Art. 43 of the Constitution of Ukraine, which guarantees every citizen the right to work and receive remuneration, to protect the autonomy of higher education institutions and the legal right of the staff to hold fair elections of the rector.
