Folk Traditions Festival “Koliada”

It is already the second year when the Student Creativity Center together with the Department of Social Sciences held a festival of folk traditions, “Kolyada”, dedicated to Christmas.

New Year and Christmas holidays in Ukraine have long been accompanied with different fun traditions. One of the most important is Christmas when young people and children get together to greet everyone with Christmas carols. Christmas carols singers were dressed in bright folk costumes, with a star and a goat they walked through the houses and sang Christmas carols, wishing people happiness, congratulating on Christmas and  New Year. The hosts greeted the Christmas carols singers with gifts and sweets.

This wonderful tradition is still preserved in Ukraine today. At  Odessa National Medical University, students go to deans and teachers with carols during the Festive Week, to give them cheerful mood and joy.
