Every year, November 10 is celebrated as World Science Day for Peace and Development — an opportunity to once again realize the importance and relevance of science in our everyday lives. For decades, scientific discoveries and technological achievements have profoundly transformed society: science is aimed at preserving and improving life, and its implementation is the key to a sustainable future, reliable development and peace.
In the field of medicine, the role of science is undoubtedly a key one — it covers all activities: from diagnostics and treatment to prevention and rehabilitation. In the difficult conditions of martial law, scientific achievements and educational activities become even more important. The staff and students of Odessa National Medical University continue active research work, despite the challenges of today.
Our research projects are focused on solving current problems: developing new methods of diagnosis and treatment, improving disease prevention, rehabilitation, and improving the quality of medical care for the population. The impact of the environment, nutrition, lifestyle and other factors on health is also being studied. This allows for a deeper understanding of the nature of diseases and their prevention.
The results of scientific research are actively integrated into the educational process: our students work with advanced examples, gain experience necessary for professional growth. The university’s youth are actively involved in scientific activities: scientific circles operate at the departments, the Scientific Society of Students operates, and the Council of Young Scientists operates.
Science knows no borders – joint research by scientists from different countries contributes to the exchange of the latest knowledge, technologies and experience, which is of particular importance in medicine. Odessa National Medical University has 71 signed agreements with scientific and educational institutions and organizations from 29 countries of the world and continues to expand its international scientific and academic cooperation.
In 2025, the theme of World Science Day is “Trust, Transformation and Tomorrow: The Science We Need by 2050.” It reminds us that today is the day that the foundations of what science will be tomorrow and what our society will be like thanks to science are being laid.
This day reminds us that scientific discovery, creativity and intellectual work are not only the foundation of progress, but also a powerful engine for peace and sustainable development.
