100 Outstanding Graduates (Zaporozhchenko Borys Serhiiovych)

Zaporozhchenko Borys Serhiiovych – Ukrainian surgeon, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Honored Doctor of Ukraine, laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology, Knight of the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise of the V degree, member of the Presidium of the Board of the Association of Surgeons of Ukraine.
Born in 1941 in Liubashevka. After graduating from Odessa Medical Institute he worked as a doctor.
Some time later he was offered to work at Odessa Medical University. At first he was a resident, and since 2001, Borys Serhiiovych became the head of the Department of Surgery No. 2. It was then that, for 4 years, he was the Head of the Surgical Clinic of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Marine Medicine.
In 1994, Borys Serhiiovych defended his PhD dissertation on the topic: “Organization of a surgery for duodenal ulcer in the marine transport fleet.” And already in 1998 he was awarded the scientific degree of the doctor of medical sciences after defending a dissertation on the topic: “Pathogenetic justification of complex treatment of acute pancreatitis.”
He developed a unique system of surgical treatment of the liver and pancreas.
Borys Serhiiovych became a laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology in 2009 for the work “Development and introduction of new methods of diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases of the pancreas.”
Borys Serhiiovych is the author of more than 320 scientific works devoted to various problems of urgent abdominal surgery.
In 1997 Zaporozhchenko Borys Serhiiovych was awarded the title of a Honored Doctor of Ukraine, and in 2009 – the laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology.
Borys Serhiiovych is a member of the International Association of Surgeons of Hepatopancreatology, the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery, editorial boards of 7 specialist surgical journals, Honorary Member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the Republic of Belarus, the head of Odessa Regional Center for Surgery of the liver and pancreas.
