100 outstanding graduates (Serhiy Konstyantynovich Shchipun)

Serhiy Konstyantynovich Shchipun is the head physician and surgeon of the clinic “Tarus”, candidate of medical sciences, ophthalmologist of the highest category.
He was born in Odessa in 1954. In 1978 he graduated from Odessa Medical Institute named after M. I. Pirogov with honors. The first place of work for the Filatov Prize scholar was Odesa Research Institute for Eye Diseases and Clinical Therapy named after V.P. Filatov as an ophthalmologist in the eye injuries department.
Today Serhiy Konstyantynovich Shchipun is the author of numerous inventions, the holder of author’s certificates, as well as the Patent of Ukraine on the advanced method of LASIK. The candidate of medical sciences defended his dissertation “The Importance of Immunological and Immunogenetic Factors in the Diagnosis and Comprehensive Treatment of Sympathetic Ophthalmia”. Since 2000 S.K.Shchipun is a full member of the European Society of Refractive and Cataract Surgeons (ESCRS).
Serhiy Konstyantynovich was trained at the ophthalmic clinics in Freeport, Maine, USA, at the Clinic of the University named after K. G. Karus, Dresden (Germany) and the University Clinic of Hradec Kralov (Czech Republic). It was he who first introduced into practice Excimer’s ophthalmosurgery – laser photorefractive surgery – photorefraction therapy (CRF), laser in situ keratomyelosis (LASIK) and phototherapeutic therapy (FTC).
Serhiy Konstyantynovich Shchipun is a vivid example of a professional in his sphere, who, as is proper for a real physician, is learning and improving his knowledge throughout his life.
