100 outstanding graduates (Prokopova Liudmyla Vasylivna)

Prokopova Liudmyla Vasylivna was a professor, Head of the Department of Surgery of Childhood (1974 – 1991).
After graduation from the Pediatric Faculty of Odessa Medical Institutenamed after M.I. Pirogov in 1954 Liudmyla Vasylivna chose the direction “Surgery and Orthopedics of Childhood”. The teaching staff originally noticed the graduate. Subsequently, she was invited to work at the department, which at that time was headed by Professor M.L. Dmitriiev, who became her scientific supervisor.
Prokopova Liudmyla Vasylivna developed a new direction of use of physical factors in the treatment of surgical, orthopedic and traumatic pathology. She proposed a method of combined bone plastics, as well as new variants of chest medications for osteomyelitis and tumors.
In the walls of his native university Liudmyla Vasylivna passed the path from the senior laboratory assistant to the professor of the Department of Surgery and the Dean of the Pediatric Faculty.
In 1959 she defended her Ph.D. thesis on “Acute Appendicitis in children”. And already in 1969, she was awarded the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences after defending her dissertation on the topic: “Combined bone plastics in the treatment of pseudosuffits and defects of long tubular bones in children.” A year later Liudmyla Vasylivna was approved as a professor of the Department of Surgery and Orthopedics of Childhood.
Prokopova Liudmyla Vasylivna is the author of about 150 scientific works, co-author of 3 monographs, the owner of 12 certificates of inventions. Under hersupervision, 2 doctoral and 12 candidate’s theses were completed. She was awarded the Order of Honor.
Unfortunately, recently professor Prokopova L.V. has died, but the memory of her, her actions and labor will live in our hearts and in the treasury of Odessa National Medical University forever!
