Professor Sabaratnam Arulkumaran (Sir Sabaratnam Arulkumaran PhD DSc FRCS FRCOG) is an Honorary Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the University of Nicosia, an honorary professor at St. George’s University in London, a visiting Professor at the World Health Institute, Imperial College, London.
Professor Sabaratnam Arulkumaran was born in 1948 in Sri Lanka.
In 1997 he moved to the UK.
Behind the prominent doctor and scientist there are more than 45 years of clinical practice and 35 years of teaching.
From 2012 to 2015 Professor Arulkumaran served as president of the International Federation of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FIGO).
From 2001 to 2013, he headed the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. George’s University in London.
From 2007 to 2010, Professor Arulkumaran served as president of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (RCOG) in London.
In June 2012, he was elected president of the British Medical Association (BMA), where he worked until 2014.
Prof. Arulkumaran enjoys a high professional reputation in the world scientific and medical community and is an employee, member and honorary doctor of many professional associations and associations.
He is an honorary member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology Societies in India, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in Australia and New Zealand, Societies of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Germany, Malaysia, and Canada.
He also received the title of Honorary Doctor of the University of Athens.
In June 2009, the Queen of Great Britain, in recognition of outstanding achievements in the field of medicine and health, awarded Professor Sabaratnam Arulkumaranu with the honorary title of the Knight Bachelor.
The main areas of professional interests and areas of work of professor Sabaratnam Arkulmaran are: premature rupture of the membranes, artificial birth of the child, postpartum bleeding, vibro-acoustic stimulation as an indicator of the condition of the fetus, cardiotocography (CTG), IR spectroscopy in the examination and diagnosis of preinvasive and invasive gynecological tumors, and others.
Professor Arulkumaran is the author of 38 books, 165 chapters, more than 290 publications in leading journals. He is the editor-in-chief of “Best Practice & Research in Clinical Obstetrics & Gynecology” magazine (since 1998), a member of the editorial board of many international obstetric and gynecological journals (Obstetrics and Gynecology Survey, Current Obstetrics and Gynecology Gynecology and Pediatrics, the Journal of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, etc.).
Prof. Sabaratnam Arulkumaran has conducted more than 500 lectures in different countries of the world and has been an examiner at 10 leading universities. And now, every year, the professor participates in at least 10 local or international medical forums as the main speaker.
According to the totality of his scientific merit, experience and authority in the world scientific and educational community, Professor Sir Sabaratnam Arul’maran deserves being awarded the title of Honorary Professor of Odessa National Medical University.
