Professor Wolfgang Holzgreve (Dr. med. Dr.h.c.mult. Wolfgang Holzgreve, MBA, FACOG, FRCOG) is a medical director and head of the Medical Center of the University of Bonn (Germany).
Wolfgang Holzgriew was born and raised in Germany, where he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Münster University. He also received a Master’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley (USA).
In Germany, Wolfgang Holzgräve became a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics.
From 1982 to 1984, Dr. Holzgrieve worked on his thesis research on reproductive genetics at the University of California San Francisco.
He became an assistant professor, then an associate professor at the University of Munster.
In 1995, prof. Holzgriew was appointed Head of the Faculty of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the University of Basel (Switzerland).
From Switzerland, he returned to become a medical director and chairman of the board of directors at the University of Freiburg.
In 2010-2011 prof. Holzgrieve took a creative vacation to conduct research in maternity and child health in low-income countries. The research was conducted at the Berlin Institute for Advanced Studies.
In August 2011, Professor Holzgriew was elected head physician and head of the Medical Center of the University of Bonn (Germany).
The main area of professional interests of Professor Wolfgang Holzgräva is prenatal diagnosis and therapy, where he acts as a prominent defender of personality-oriented medicine. Among the main areas of his work are the development of invasive techniques, such as chorionic villus biopsy, as well as non-invasive prenatal diagnosis using maternal blood.
The result of Professor Holzgriew’s work is the authorship of 10 books and 600 first editions, membership in the editorial boards of 15 journals and the Hirsch index 41.
For many years, he was the editor-in-chief of the magazine Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy. Today, the professor is an assistant editor of the journal “International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics”, as well as “Global Library of Women’s Medicine” (www.glowm.com).
For outstanding contributions to science and medicine, Professor Wolfgang Holzgröm has been honored with many awards, including Maternity Award, Liley Medal, and others. He received five degrees of honorary doctorate and is an honorary member of the American and Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Professor Holzgröv served as Chief Treasurer of the European Chamber and College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (EBCOG). Currently, he is the representative of the World Federation of Gynecologists and Obstetricians (FIGO) at the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations in Geneva.
For his scientific contributions, experience and authority in the world scientific and educational community, Professor Wolfgang Holzgriew deserves being awarded the title of Honorary Professor of Odessa National Medical University.
