Dr. Radu Iliescu (Doctor of Medical Sciences, FAHA) is a professor at the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy ” Grigore T. Popa University ” in Iasi, Romania, where he also holds the position of the Vice-Rector for Science and the Vice-Rector for International Affairs.
Dr. Iliescu is also a visiting associate professor and instructor at the Medical Centre of the University of Mississippi (the USA), where he is involved in independent integrative research in the cardiovascular and renal areas. These works are funded by the American Heart Association within the framework of the “Obesity Mechanisms that Causes Kidney Damage.”
Professor Iliescu has more than 10 years of experience in research on cardiovascular and renal problems in modern medicine. He is the author of more than 40 published research papers and sections of research work in medical books and magazines with the highest ratings in the scientific community.
Dr. Iliescu is also a member of various committees in international and national scientific communities and a reviewer in a number of medical journals, including sections on analysis of grant research.
The main areas of professional specialization of Dr. Iliescu are integrative physiology, molecular biology and transgenic technologies, mathematical modeling, medical equipment, profiling therapeutic goals and medical education.
Currently, the main areas of Professor Iliescu ‘s work are the development of fundamental and applied research of the cardiovascular system, in particular in the light of the integration of the academic environment and the pharmaceutical industry to develop targeted therapeutic approaches, and the development of new educational paradigms for the formation of classical scientists and clinicians.
Professor Iliescu also used to actively pursue independent research in the field of integrative physiology. These works were funded by the American Heart Association and were awarded a scholarship entitled “Cardiovascular and Renal Effects of Testosterone-containing Supplements on Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats.”
Professor Iliescu also has experience of cooperation with the University of Loyola (Chicago, USA) as a guest lecturer, as well as with the Max Delpyuk Center for Molecular Medicine (Berlin, Germany), where he participated in trainings in physiology and molecular biology, genetics and transgenic models and studied the effect of androgens on the cardiovascular system.
These works were conducted under patronage and sponsored by the European Union, the Marie Curie Association, and were distinguished with a scholarship by Schering AG.
Professor Iliescu is a member of a number of leading national and international scientific communities, including the American Heart Association and the American Physiological Society, holding numerous scientific awards. He carries out professional activities and scientific communication in 5 languages (English, French, German, Spanish, Romanian).
